My Guide To The Boxing Day Sales!

It’s ten days to go to one of my favourite days of the year – the Boxing Day sales! It’s the perfect time to snatch up covetable pieces at a reduced price (or maybe get your hands on something you hinted at, but didn’t receive the day before) but while the offers are almost too good to pass up, the crowds and stress can be a little too much to handle. Need some help navigating the best way to find a bargain? Here’s my guide to getting the most out of the Boxing Day sales!

PLAN AHEAD

With some of our favourite stores offering amazing discounts you can bet that everything gets snapped up early – the last shoe in your size, the bag you had your eye on, car parks, you name it! The aim of the game is preparation. If you’re planning to take on a shopping centre, get there early, take advantage of public transport (or shuttle services like Chadstone offers), and hit the stores that you want first.

If there’s a particular item you’re looking at and are waiting for the price to drop, try it on prior to the day so you won’t have to spend the majority of your day lining up for change rooms, or if that’s not an option, read up on the returns policy – no one needs to be in line longer than they have to!

SET A BUDGET

I know I’m guilty of buying something I didn’t really need because it was a great price, leaving me spending way more than I had planned to. The best way to combat this is to set a solid budget before hitting the sales – that way, you aren’t going to find an unexpectedly high credit card bill in January, or end up with things you’ll never wear. Set a price that covers everything you want or can afford to part with, and nothing more (well, except maybe a coffee to keep you going!)

INVEST IN TRANSSEASONAL PIECES

While refreshing your wardrobe with new pieces, be wary of buying things that are too trend driven. Remember, these sales are on to clear old stock first and foremost! After all, a gorgeous mini might be perfect for the next month, but once the weather turns colder, will you have a chance to wear it?

I always like to advise to take advantage of the discounts to refresh your staple wardrobe – a great pair of jeans or denim cut-offs, basic shirts and tees, classic heels, or a great bag. These will take you through all year, and with the great offers around, you can look towards higher end brands without having to pay full RRP.

HEAD ONLINE

Can’t make it in person? You don’t have to miss out on a great bargain! Many online retailers are offering comparable offers for Boxing Day, so you don’t even have to get out of your pyjamas to join in the fun! E-tailers like The Iconic (who offer 100-day returns!) and ASOS always have a huge selection of great pieces at a very good price and websites for major brands like Myer and David Jones often run the same offers online, and with many offering click and collect, you can buy online and try on in store later – if it’s not right, return it while you’re there!
