My Favourite Moments From Fashion Month!

If you’re anything like me, this past month you have had post after post of gorgeous couture flooding your Instagram feed during the madness that is fashion month. From New York, Milan and Paris there were so many amazing moments of stunning couture and show stopping sets.

Now we’ve had time to take it all in, I’m counting down my top ten moments from NYFW, LFW, MFW, and last but not least, PFW.

10. RAF SIMONS DEBUT AT CALVIN KLEIN

After Raf Simons was named the new Chief Creative Officer of Calvin Klein, the news was meet with huge expectations and a little apprehension. After all, it was a little difficult to see how someone who had just come off several successful seasons at Dior could interpret the minimal, denim-centric Calvin Klein. Well, after sending an Americana themed collection down the runway, all expectations were not only met, but exceeded.

Inter splicing nods to the label’s history (by way of Brooke Shields’ iconic CK ad becoming the denim label) and introducing a brand new concept ( Calvin Klein By Appointment, a made-to-measure service), it proves the new CCO can do minimal chic just as well as couture gowns.

9. LOUIS AT THE LOUVRE

Paris Fashion Week hosted some of the most extravagant shows of the season, and one of the major highlights was Louis Vuitton taking over none other than the Lourve (note: the first time this has ever been allowed). Models stormed the infamous art gallery, showcasing Nicholas Ghesquière’s take on cool girl aesthetic – no ball gowns needed for this art gala!

8. STELLA McCARTNEY’S GEORGE MICHAEL DANCE PARTY

Rather than the traditional finale walk, Stella McCartney opted for a tribute to late musican, George Michael. With his hit, Faith filling the room, the models all singing along, turned the runway into a dance party. A fitting tribute (calling to mind the supermodel-filled video for Freedom ’90), and a break from solemn faces walking single file, this finale was a fashion week moment not easily forgotten.

7. RIHANNA TAKES PFW BACK TO SCHOOL

Rihanna’s collaboration with Puma, Fenty, has always had a too-cool-for-school vibe, and for this year’s presentation, she fully embraced this with a full study hall themed set. University motifs and sports luxe pieces walked the desks (yes, the runway was created as library desks) and to complete the theme, as Rihanna took her bow, models showered the runway with torn up books.

6. TOMMYLAND TAKES OVER VENICE BEACH

With the help of Gigi Hadid, Tommy Hillfiger moved his NYFW presentation to the west coast, transforming Venice Beach into Tommyland – a Coachella/beach party/fashion hybrid world.

The high concept set was matched with equally innovative additions (guests were able to shop the runway immediately), and following the show, turned into a huge after party.

5. SIMONE ROCHA’S ALL AGES PARTY

Fashion often favours the young, but at Simone Rocha’s LFW presentation celebrated women of all ages, with veteran models Marie-Sophie Wilson, Benedetta Barzini, and Jan de Villen returning to the runway for the show. In a sometimes superficial industry, it was great to see the women who actually will purchase the pieces shown represented on the catwalk.

4. PRADA INVITES GUESTS TO THE ULTIMATE TEENAGE DREAM

Building the ultimate teenage bedroom as their set, Prada invited guests to get comfy, seating the front row on individually styled beds. Points for the comfiest front row seats ever!

3. INFLUENCERS TAKE OVER DOLCE & GABBANA

There’s no questioning the weight fashion influencers have now, and Dolce & Gabbana capitalised on this by casting celebrity children, Instagram stars and street style favourites in lieu of models. While this decision was met was some resistance, the spanning age groups and different styling of each look created a more approachable and accessible take on couture.

2.  GUCCI BRINGS THEIR GARDEN TO LIFE

Gucci have been the maximalist specialists for the last few seasons, and for their PFW presentation, they brought the Gucci Garden to life, with an equally massive 96 looks walking the runway. Bags layered with smaller bags, a full sequined bodysuit, and a graffiti-ed logo tank? Alessandro Michele shows no sign of toning it down, and I couldn’t be happier.

1. CHANEL’S  OUT OF THIS WORLD RUNWAY

Chanel has always had high concept, immersive runway presentations (can anyone forget the amazing supermarket theme from 2014?) and this year, Karl Lagerfeld pushed his high concept show into outer space…literally. Barbarella inspired models (including fashion month regulars Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid) paraded around a full scale Chanel-branded rocket…which then took off (seriously!). As always, Chanel was the show of the season.

With VAMFF beginning tonight and MBFWA just around the corner, the fashion inspo just keeps coming. Keep up with the shows on my Instagram – I’ll be bringing you the best looks as they walk!
